Dr. Gail M. Royal
Dr.
Gail M. Royal graduated Magna Cum Laude from both the University
of Massachusetts, where she fulfilled her undergraduate studies, and
the University of Maryland, where she received her medical degree.
Dr. Royal completed her internship in internal medicine at the California
Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California. She concluded
her ophthalmology residency at the University of California San Francisco.
Relocating from California, Dr. Royal joined Coastal Eye Group in
1993. Dr. Royal practices in the Myrtle Beach and Little River offices.
She also operates in our ambulatory surgical center in Georgetown,
Bay Microsurgical Unit. The primary focus of her practice is the treatment
of cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic eye diseases.
Dr. Royal has been the proud recipient of numerous honors and awards
throughout her educational career. During medical school, she was
elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Society. At graduation
in 1988, she received the Dr. Wayne Babcock prize for excellence in
surgery, as well as awards for excellence in Pathology and Neurology.
The American Medical Women's Association Scholarship Achievement award,
and an Outstanding University of Massachusetts Alumni award are also
among her honors. Most recently, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society crowned
Dr. Royal "2001 Woman of the Year" for her philanthropic efforts.
Dr. Royal is Board Certified by the American Academy of Opthalmology
and a member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Royal's philosophy of patient care is "To deliver comprehensive,
state-of-the-art medical and surgical eye care with compassion in
a friendly environment." She practices comprehensive ophthalmology
with an emphasis on the treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic
eye diseases.
